We re-imagine Wallach designs for the present day.

The Wallach brothers constantly evolved and adapted their designs to changing tastes by working with with a diverse range of artists and makers. In the same spirit, we welcome our own collaborations with public, artistic, and commercial partners that wish to re-imagine signature Wallach designs today.

Dirndl Dialogues

Dirndl Dialogues is a project led by Austrian artist Teresa Distelberger. Based on her research into the history of the Dirndl, Teresa contacted Amelia, great-granddaughter of Moritz Wallach, who herself follows in her ancestors’ footsteps in her (ceramic) art. Through numerous Skype calls, the two forged a friendship and exchanged ideas on a topic that interests them both: the transgenerational effects of trauma.

This led to a separate project within the framework of the Volxfest at the Festival of Regions, in which the women of the Mauthausen Gold Bonnet Association and seamstress Silke Peitl also participated. Together with Teresa Distelberger, they sewed a dirndl for Amelie from Wallach fabrics, and here, too, the common thread in the accompanying discussions was the question of how we personally deal with what we have “inherited” from our families from the Nazi era. These dialogues and further research materials are compiled in a 19-minute video. The creation of the dirndl serves as an anchor point for all involved.
